Capability’ is an organizational attribute - it is something your organization is set up to do very well. It consists of

individual competencies, skills and knowledge
organizational processes, procedures, systems
management focus, measurement and reward systems
requisite tools, techniques and templates
and whatever else is required for it to work well and effectively.

Our research found that

there are five levels of project delivery capability but these maturity levels are different to the common. linear maturity levels
your capability level determines your average returns on investment
most organizations are around ‘maturity level 2’ where they only break-even on projects over time
your capability level also determines what types of projects you can successfully deliver - and when you (unknowingly) take on projects beyond your capability to deliver you’ll fail on one or more dimensions
that there is a breakpoint between maturity levels 3 and 4 - where the focus and drivers shift from technical/project drivers (1-3) to business/strategy drivers (4-5)
this ‘break’ means you can move directly from, say, level 2 to level 4 without going through maturity level 3.

TOP™ moves you directly to project delivery maturity level 4 — which routinely delivers results more than twice those of maturity level 3 and greater still than the most commonly delivered results (level 2). Increasing your maturity level not only increases the returns you generate but also increases the range of projects you can successfully deliver.
