Our research found that
- there are five levels of project delivery capability but these maturity levels are different to the common. linear maturity levels
- your capability level determines your average returns on investment
- most organizations are around ‘maturity level 2’ where they only break-even on projects over time
- your capability level also determines what types of projects you can successfully deliver - and when you (unknowingly) take on projects beyond your capability to deliver you’ll fail on one or more dimensions
- that there is a breakpoint between maturity levels 3 and 4 - where the focus and drivers shift from technical/project drivers (1-3) to business/strategy drivers (4-5)
- this ‘break’ means you can move directly from, say, level 2 to level 4 without going through maturity level 3.
